Team Qualification

Cooking For Fun – This is a Cooking for Fun only competition.

  • All teams must compete in all 3 meat categories: Pork, Ribs, Chicken
  • Teams may choose to also compete for new Primo Ceramic Grills in “Lord of the Wings” Friday and “People’s Choice Pork BBQ” Saturday. Rules below.
  • Teams may also choose to complete in Sauce/Anything Butt — rules below.

Rules

  • GBA rules require: “No member of a Cooking for Fun team may have been the Pit Master of a professional team that previously competed in a BBQ competition.”
  • We will follow Georgia Barbecue Association Rules for Barbecue Contest Participants. Visit www.bbqga.org/gba-rules for more details.

 

Prize Categories:

3 Meats: Pork, Ribs, Chicken judged by Georgia Barbecue Association

Cooking Contests judged by the Public – for Charities

Optional

  • Sauce – $50.00
  • Anything Butt – $50.00

 

Site Utilities

  • 20 Amp power available to cook teams. Please bring your own extension cords.
  • Water is available to cook teams. Please bring your own hoses.
  • Ash cans are available for hot or cold grill ashes and must be used.
  • Grease disposal containers are available to cook teams and must be used.
  • The day after Smoke this grassy area will revert to Acworth City Park use.

 

Regulations for All Cook Teams:

  • Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 12th and 13th at Cauble Park, 4425 Beach St NW, Acworth, GA 30101, adjacent to Acworth Beach.
  • Teams arrive beginning at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 12th. Please check in prior to set up.

  • Cook Team Meeting at 4:00 PM on Friday, May 12th – At the main shelter
  • Friday Night Activities – 8:00 PM Concert – Fireworks after the concert
  • VIP dinner tables Friday in front of the bandstand / gazebo – $100 per table
  • Awards Ceremony approximately 3:30 PM on Saturday, May 13th
  • Quiet hours will be from Midnight – 6:00 AM

 

Lord of the Wings and People’s Choice Pork BBQ Competitions – judged by the Public

These two competitions have the largest direct impact on our community. The funds raised thru taster tickets sold to the public are used for multiple Rotary charity efforts. Your support is highly encouraged and needed – and it’s fun!

Rules for both Lord of the Wings and People’s Choice Pork BBQ Competition

  • If you receive free wings or butts from Rotary you must participate.
  • Purchasing tickets by cook teams to inflate their ticket count is not permitted.
  • Trading tickets with other cook teams is not permitted.
  • Meat provided by Rotary is only allowed to be used for this event. Any remaining meat after the competition ends will then belong to the cook team.

 Friday – Lord of the Wings – Primo Grill Prize

  • From 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM on Friday night there will be a public judged competition featuring chicken wings.
  • Each participating BBQ team will be preparing their own special flavor(s) of chicken wings and the public will judge.
  • Festival goers will be able to purchase a book that includes 4 taster tickets and one voting ticket. After sampling different team’s wings the taster will give the voting ticket to the team that they liked the best.
  • All teams will receive free wings and serving cups from Rotary to assist you in the event. The wings can only be used for the Lord of the Wings competition. “Any team caught using the wings for anything other than the competition will be disqualified from the entire event”.
  • Each cook team is responsible for distributing the wings at their individual cook site.
  • The team with the most voting tickets will be crowned this year’s Lord of The Wings.
  • The winner will receive a Primo Grill.

Saturday – People’s Choice Pork BBQ – Primo Grill Prize

  • From 11:30 AM – 3:00 PM on Saturday there will be a public judged People’s Choice BBQ competition featuring pork butt.
  • Each participating BBQ team will be preparing their own pork butts and the public will judge.
  • Festival goers will be able to purchase a book that includes 4 taster tickets and one voting ticket. After sampling different team’s BBQ the taster will give the voting ticket to the team that they liked the best.
  • All teams will receive free butts and serving cups from Rotary to assist you in the event. The butts can only be used for the People’s Choice Pork BBQ competition. “Any team caught using the butts for anything other than the competition will be disqualified from the entire event.”
  • Each cook team is responsible for distributing the pork at their individual cook site.
  • The team with the most voting tickets will be crowned this year’s People’s Choice Pork BBQ.
  • The winner will receive a Primo Grill.

 

Sauce and Anything Butt Competitions

  • Each competition pays one $50.00 cash prize.
  • Competitors must be fully registered and participating cook teams.
  • Teams may submit one or two Sauces.
  • Teams may submit one “Anything Butt” entry.
  • Anything Butt includes any BBQ related food item, such as desserts.
  • Turn-in Time Sauce – 6:30 PM Friday
  • Turn-in Time Anything Butt – 7:00 PM Friday

 

Registration and Discounts for Cooking Competitions

  • Register by February 15, 2017 and receive a $50 Discount off the Cook Team Entry Fee
  • The Entry Form and payment must be postmarked by February 15th to qualify for discount.
